This homocysteine test strip can quantitatively measure the amount of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is a type of amino acid that's needed when the body makes proteins. Normally, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and folic acid break down homocysteine and change it into other substances that the body needs. There should be very little homocysteine left in the bloodstream. High levels of homocysteine in the blood may be a sign of a vitamin deficiency, heart disease, or a rare inherited disorder.
What is it used for?
A homocysteine test may be used to:
- Find out if you have deficiency in vitamin B12, B6, or folic acid.
- Help diagnose homocystinuria, a rare, inherited disorder that prevents the body from breaking down certain proteins. It can cause serious health problems and usually starts in early childhood. Most U.S. states require all infants to get a homocysteine blood test as part of routine newborn screening.
- Screen for heart disease in people at high risk for heart attack or stroke
- Monitor people who have heart disease.

Storage
All reagents are ready to use as supplied. Unopened reagent kits are stable at 4°C ~30°C for 18 months. It should be used within 1 hour once the pouch is opened. Do not freeze the kit or expose the kit above 37°C during storage. Keep away from direct sunlight.
Testing Procedure
1. Insert IC card into Analyzer. Make sure the lot number of IC card is the same as test strip.
2. Take test strip from original sealed package, and insert it into Analyzer until the end of test strip can’t go
any further.
3. When “Add SAMPLE” appears on the display, apply 40μL of the whole blood to the test strip

4. In about 2 minutes, the results will appear on the display. As necessary, Press the left or right button to view
additional results. Remove and discard test strip. Do not add more blood to a test strip that has been used.
