Procalcitonin is a substance produced by many types of cells in the body, often in response to bacterial infections but also in response to tissue injury. The level of procalcitonin in the blood can increase significantly in systemic bacterial infections and sepsis. This test measures the level of procalcitonin in the blood.

Storage Conditions and Expiry Date
The validity of test kit sealed in aluminum foil pouch is 18 months under condition of 2℃-8℃.
The sealed test kit is stable for up to 30 days under room temperature (2℃-30℃) within validity period.
Temperature change (< 37℃) during shipment has no effect on quality of the test kit.
The unsealed kit is stable within 1 hour under ambient condition.

A procalcitonin test may be used to help:
Diagnose sepsis and other bacterial infections, such as meningitis
Diagnose kidney infections in children with urinary tract infections
Determine the severity of a sepsis infection
Find out whether an infection or illness is caused by bacteria
Monitor the effectiveness of Antibiotics therapy
